Quinn’s heart was racing as she continued to lead Rachel through the crowd of dancing teenagers, trying to get them out of the gym as quickly as possible without getting caught by Coach Sylvester. She slowed down as she neared the door, taking a second to turn around and watch Kurt and Blaine continue their slow dance. They looked really cute and happy together or so she tried convince herself to get rid of the guilt that was making her a little sick to her stomach. Really, how was she supposed to know that Blaine would get kicked out a few minutes before Kurt was crowned prom queen? It wasn’t supposed to happen like that and she couldn’t get Kurt’s reaction out of her mind. She closed her eyes and let out a calming breath before opening them and smiling softly at Rachel, letting her know that everything was okay. “Let’s go Rach.”
She led them slowly out of the gym and into the hallway, intertwining her fingers with Rachel’s as they went. It was quiet out in the hallway, so much so that it reminded her of the first time she snuck into the school with Rachel. That seemed like years ago when in reality it was only a couple months ago but she could still remember feeling those butterflies around Rachel for the first time. And here they were hand in hand walking down the same hallway. “So good prom?” She asked with a chuckle, feeling like an emotional train wreck after that experience. She greedily took in a breath of fresh air as they made it outside and she felt her heart rate decrease slightly. It took her a moment to decide where to take Rachel but when she decided she knew that no one would come looking for them or find them there. The football field was completely empty and Quinn quickly slipped off her heels as soon as she stepped on the grass. She led Rachel to the middle of the field before letting go of the brunette’s hand and laying down on the grass, not giving a damn about her dress.
Rachel trailed after Quinn quietly, sensing that the other needed a minute and honestly needing one herself. She hadn’t expected to win queen, not really-she was up against Cheerio’s and most people in the school still had no idea who she was in the first place-but losing to Kurt-she shook her head. He had been happy once Blaine showed up from wherever he had run off to, and that was the important thing. They were happy, and Quinn had shown up, and she smiled as she was led outside to the football field, though she didn’t answer the question until she had sat down next to Quinn, wondering just how badly her dress would be ruined with grass stains.
“It was okay,” she answered honestly. “I mostly just danced with Brittany and Charlie.” She bit her lip, looking down at Quinn with a small smile. “It’s better now though,” she admitted, because she’d spent far too much time looking for her during the actual dance itself to not come clean.

Quinn continued to look into Rachel’s eyes and she knew that she had complete faith in Quinn’s ability to get into NYU. It was thrilling to see that someone other then her best friends had a little bit of faith in her. “Okay.” She nodded her head, letting a small smile show on her face. It was a dangerous move and Quinn knew that the girl sitting next to her had the ability to break her with just a couple words but it was a risk she was willing to take. She couldn’t tell Rachel no just because she was scared.“Regardless of NYU, we’ll have the summer.” She repeated, trying to convince herself that it wouldn’t ruin everything if she didn’t get into the college in New York. Quinn ran her thumb over the back of Rachel’s hand soothingly before letting go and stretching her arms over her head. “I should get you home, I don’t want your dads to hate me before I even get the chance to woo you.” She winked, folding the blanket before making her way inside of her room. She peeked her head back outside the window and held her hand out to Rachel to help guide her back inside. When Rachel was safely back in her room, Quinn pulled her closed as she placed her hands on Rachel’s waist. “Even if we just have the summer I still want to take things slow, you deserve that.” She smiled before leaning in and kissing Rachel softly on the cheek.
Rachel smiled as Quinn agreed about the summer, feeling happier than she could remember feeling in a long time. She might not have been able to pin down exactly when she had started to like the blonde quite so much, but the thought of her stopping it before anything had really begun wasn’t one Rachel wanted to dwell on. She laughed quietly as Quinn slipped back in through the window, clasping tightly onto her hand so Rachel could climb back through safely, feeling reasonably safer once she was on solid ground she couldn’t just tumble right off of, even before Quinn moved closer to her.
She felt her breath hitch in her throat as the girls hands found their way to her waist, something she hadn’t been expecting at all, her eyes wide as Quinn’s lips found her cheek, unable to do much more than nod in return. “That sounds reasonable,” she breathed out, regaining enough sense to brush a stray hair out of Quinn’s hair. “Besides, until Blaine knows for certain-it’s better to keep things slow,” she added, trying to figure out exactly how long she’d have to wait before explaining things to her brother before she gave in to the urge and placed a small kiss on Quinn’s cheekbone. “I’m really happy we’re taking this chance, Quinn.”

Jason Mraz - I Won’t Give Up
Quinn smiled happily at Rachel’s words, her shoulder relaxing as if the weight of the world was off of her shoulders. She had told Rachel how she felt and now they were going to fight for what they had with each other. The blush on her cheeks lessened slightly but she never took her eyes off of Rachel’s. “Blaine will understand eventually, even if I have to get Mike to talk to him.” She assured, feeling lighter and happier than she had felt for months. She felt her heart soar at Rachel’s nod and had to bite her lip to stop herself from smiling too much. “We’re not supposed to but luckily for you badasses don’t like following rules so I figured I could make an exception.” Quinn smirked, letting go of one of Rachel’s hands to gently brush a loose strand of the brunette’s hair behind her ear. Her smile dimmed a little bit at Rachel’s insistence of a date regardless of her NYU application. She really wanted to take Rachel out but the fact that she might be in California in a few months was daunting. “What if I don’t get in though?” She asked worriedly, letting her insecurities show for just a moment. She couldn’t get attached to someone and let them into her life only to have to say goodbye to them a couple months later.
Her eyes widened a little as Quinn’s hand swept hair out of her face, the simple act nearly distracting her entirely from Quinn’s question. It was a terrifying option, to start something with Quinn only to have to have to separate in a couples months time. It wasn’t something Rachel particularly wanted to think about, but with graduation rapidly approaching, it was all anyone seemed to be able to think about it. “Well, while I still think you’ll get in,” she said, staring above Quinn’s head and at the stars above them, taking a moment to process her thoughts so she didn’t say the wrong thing and mess it all up for herself, “I’d still like to try anyways.”
She chewed on her lip before continuing, her voice a little quieter, “I mean, it’ll suck, come August when I run off to New York and you run off to California if that’s the case but-I’d rather have a summer than nothing at all,” she admitted, her eyes wide as she looked at Quinn, her nerves frayed as she tried to remind herself that they had just agreed to take on Blaine if necessary, something like an impending college acceptance shouldn’t be what made or broke them.

My dads are even letting me skip school so I can go get my hair done and everything, not that I wouldn’t have anyways.
“You know in movies it’s usually the best friend that gets hell if they try to go after his sister but you and Blaine like to break the norm and go after each other instead.” Quinn shook her head, looking away for a moment. “I was looking forward to all that drama too but I think it would be a little weird if either of you decided to do things the normal way.” She laughed, wanting to lighten up the mood a little bit. Maybe it hadn’t been the best idea to flaunt what they had in front of Blaine when Quinn wasn’t even sure if it would ever work out between them.“Look, it’s obvious that we both care about Blaine otherwise we wouldn’t even be discussing his feelings towards us. Blaine’s my best friend, I love him and all but I would be lying if I said that you were the only one chasing.” She said softly, taking both of Rachel’s hand in hers and looking into her eyes. If she was going to admit to her feelings for the brunette then she was going to do it the right way. “You’re not going to scare me away because I like you too, a lot actually,” Her heart beat a little faster and she felt the blush appearing on her face, “And I’m not going to let you handle Blaine on your own. As much as I care about his opinion if we want something to come out of whatever this is then I won’t let him stop us.” Blaine would understand, he had to. “That being said, if I get into NYU what would you say to going on a date with me? I’ll even ask Blaine and your dads for permission.”
Rachel’s heart felt like it was going to beat right out of her chest, a soft pink dusting Quinn’s cheeks as she admitted to feeling the same things that Rachel felt, and she could feel her own matching blush crawling on her skin. “So it’s agreed then,” she said quietly, her hands moving from allowing Quinn to hold them to lacing their fingers together, Rachel focusing her eyes on the green ones staring back at her. “We’ll take care of Blaine, but regardless of what he ends up saying-I mean, we like each other,” she couldn’t help the smile that spread at those words, because it had been said, they had acknowledged it and brought it into the open and neither were running away in fear, “Blaine shouldn’t make a difference in that.”
She let a small giggle out when Quinn actually asked her on a date, a date of all things, unable to stop herself as she nodded in agreement. “I didn’t know badasses were allowed to date,” she teased gently, knocking her knee gently into Quinn’s under the blanket still covering them both. “Although, I have to admit, if you don’t want me to get my hopes pinned on NYU, you may want to lower the stakes a little. Take me out on a date regardless,” she finished with a smirk.
Quinn couldn’t stop herself from letting out a quiet giggle at Rachel’s surprised reaction. “Wow, I’m surprised Harvard hasn’t started begging you to attend their school with all that deductive reasoning you have there.” She teased, smirking as she bumped their shoulders together. “I know it’s in New York but don’t act so surprised, I mean all I’m really looking for in a college is distance from Lima which California and New York definitely have.” She shrugged, not letting herself get excited over anything yet. When she applied to NYU it was mainly for the distance it would create between her and her parents but she also applied with her best friend in mind. Despite the fact that Rachel and Blaine sometimes didn’t get along she really couldn’t picture them being apart for years. Her feelings for Rachel hadn’t come into play until recently and she was glad she applied because as much as she liked Rachel a long distance relationship would never work.“I’m supposed to hear from them by next week but please don’t get super excited over this okay? Because there’s a really high possibility that I won’t even get in and I don’t want you to be disappointed.” She had already disappointed too many people this year alone and couldn’t bear the thought of disappointing Rachel. Her thoughts drifted over to someone else who was probably feeling disappointed and a little betrayed with her. “D-Do you think Blaine is going to be really upset with us?” She asked quietly, turning towards Rachel. “I mean he was really shocked when I showed up and I just…I just don’t want to come between you two.”
“Can I be a little excited?” Rachel asked with a small smile. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be happy if you decide to go to Berkley still but,” she shrugged, chewing on her lip. California was so far, too far, and they were just starting out-even by the time August rolled around, it would have only been a few months tops, and she knew herself enough to know that distance would be a huge hindrance in any relationship she had.
She sucked in a breath when Quinn brought up Blaine, her smile fading a little. “Probably me more than you,” she said in a quiet voice. “After all, his little sister chasing after his best friend? I bet it’s not really a problem he ever saw coming,” she tried to joke, her voice lodging in her throat momentarily. “I know we haven’t really discussed what’s happening,” she continued after a moment, “and I don’t want to scare you off or anything, but-I can handle Blaine. And I don’t want to come between you two, because you’re his best friend and he’s yours-but I like you Quinn. And if he can’t accept that then-” she shrugged, because she wasn’t sure what she would do. A part of her wanted to say that Blaine’s opinion didn’t matter, but he was her brother. And if he was really uncomfortable with it, she knew she’d eventually have to give up Quinn. “I’ll just have to remind him that he is currently involved with my best friend,” she decided, smiling brightly at the blonde once more.
